Description
Ultraviolet (UV) Inspection Lamps, also known as Black Lights, are essential tools in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), primarily for fluorescent inspection methods.
-
Function: They emit UV-A light (typically peaking at 365 nm) which causes fluorescent magnetic particles (in MPI) or fluorescent penetrants (in PT) to glow brightly, making cracks, seams, and other discontinuities easily visible against a dark background.
-
Technology & Types: Modern lamps have largely transitioned from traditional mercury vapor bulbs to UV LED technology due to its superior features, including instant start-up, cooler operation, longer lifespan, and highly stable intensity. Lamps are available as small handheld torches, high-intensity flood lights, or fixed overhead systems for inspection benches.
